I’m passionate about helping you improve your financial life!
Meet Scott
My name is Scott Townsend, and I live in southern New Hampshire with my wife, daughter, and our playful and social cat. We live on a small lake and enjoy all that it brings us each season, from boating and tubing to stand-up paddle boarding and swimming in the summer, ice skating and hockey in the winter, and endless wildlife throughout the year. Besides enjoying the lake life, in my free time I like to play golf and spend time with friends and family.
I am an Electrical Engineer by trade who has had to figure out my finances on my own over time. I've loved numbers since I was a kid, starting with the stats on the back of baseball cards. As I started my engineering career after college, I became interested in learning more about personal finance. Through publications, podcasts, books, and going through my own personal finance journey with my wife, I have built up knowledge and habits to share with others.
In mid-2021, I was fortunate enough to step away from my engineering career to work on this passion project of personal finance coaching and helping people navigate money topics. My wife and I have had a common mindset of avoiding lifestyle creep over the years, and this behavior, among others, has allowed me the freedom to step away and do something different. So, here I am!
I have observed over the years many people falling into the traps of "Keeping up with the Joneses", spending to their income level over time, letting debt rule their lives, or simply not carving out an adequate amount of their income for savings and retirement goals. I want to help coach individuals and families to learn how to navigate their finances in a better way and stray from the herd to reach their financial goals. I also want to help educate high school and college students and young professionals about good money habits that can help them grow wealth and support the life they want to live.
Let me help show you the way!
What is a personal finance coach?
Great question! A personal finance coach helps educate you about finances and topics such as smarter money management, proper use of credit, getting out of and/or avoiding debt, budgeting, saving (for house, college, retirement, etc.), Financial coaches also help you modify behaviors to improve your financial situation. Personal financial coaches do not recommend specific investments or give investing advice. If you're looking for that, see a financial advisor.
